Binomial Random Variable

Post  pallav on Fri Mar 30, 2012 6:47 pm

In which of the situations outlined below could the variable X be described as a binomial random variable?

I. A car manufacturer chooses one car from each hour’s production for a
detailed quality inspection. One variable recorded is the number of defects
(dimples, ripples, etc), X, in the car's paint.

II. The pool of potential jurors for a murder case contains 100 persons chosen
at random from the adult residents of a large city. Each person in the pool
is asked whether he or she opposes the death penalty. X is the number
responding "Yes".

III. Joe buys one lottery ticket a week, 52 weeks of the year. X is the number
of times in a year that he wins a prize.
